Relaxing Walks in the Surrey Hills
The stunning Surrey Hills stretch from Farnham to Oxted, covering miles of rolling hills, chalk downs, heathland, farms and woodland. The area is an AONB , includes a section of the North Downs Way, and it’s surprisingly easy to get away from it all, in the heart of Surrey.
Guildford Hills
For anyone who likes walking, wants some space, inspiration and relaxation, the hills around Guildford have a lot to offer. Here’s some more photos of the Surrey Hills to whet your appetite.
I lead a gentle taster walk in this area once a month.
The walks are at a comfortable pace – pausing to enjoy what we’re seeing, chatting or taking some time on your own knowing that you can just follow the group and relax. The aim is to provide all the gently restorative aspects of the outdoors, without you needing to think about navigating. If you’re currently breathing and can walk far enough to go shopping, you’re probably fit enough for these walks.
We have many regular walkers, and usually welcome 2 or 3 new walkers each time. People come along for many reasons:
- Getting to know more of the countryside on your doorstep
- Book some space in your diary that’s just for you
- To make sure you have some time to relax
- Enjoying good company and conversation
- Meet new friends
- Get a good breath of fresh air in your lungs
- Get some exercise that’s enjoyable
- Space to amble without navigating
We are also delighted to support Discover The Camino, a journey from the heart lead by Adam Wells and the Camino De Santiago… Find out more by clicking on that link!
Thank you so much for the wonderfully relaxing walk we did at Newlands, a truly knowledgeable guide!
Thanks for a lovely time – really enjoyed the walking and meeting the others – really fab time. Look forward to doing it again soon.
As well as myself, there’s a number of other professional coaches available on these walks too, so if you want to find out what coaching actually is, or if you have something you want to chew over with an excellent listener, you have a unique chance to chat whilst you’re walking.
You can take what you want from these informal walks – relaxing, recharging your batteries, getting to know your local countryside, discovering places off the beaten track, getting back in to walking, chatting, meeting new people … It’s up to you.
Hi Sarah. I just thought I would drop you a quick line to say how much I enjoyed yesterday! The walk was so pretty and relaxing and everyone, friendly and good fun! So lots of brownie points to you for organising it and making all of our days! I was buzzing going back home on the train. Can’t wait for the next one!
Sarah, I got so much form yesterday’s walk thank you. I’m now [working at an event] and never been so upbeat about a job I traditionally hate – post walk elation! Have a great week.
The next Sunday walk is:

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is it?
We meet outside the Newlands Corner visitor’s centre for 11am. Newlands Corner is on the outskirts of Guildford on the A25 Dorking Road. The nearest postcode is GU4 8SE. Bring a bit of lunch and whatever weather protection makes sense. We amble off for a scenic walk, away from the crowds and we’ll be back at the car park for 2pm.
How many people?
I keep the group size to around a dozen which suits the relaxed and informal nature of these walks.
Is it the same walk every month?
Nope, there are dozens of different routes we do, mostly on quiet tracks that are less well known. I change the route each time.
How far do you walk?
During the three hours we usually walk approximately 5 miles, at a relaxed pace.
Are dogs welcome? Children?
The Sunday walks are for adults only, designed to provide time for you to chill out without any responsibility, a few hours that’s purely for you.
What if it’s raining?
We will still be walking! If you decide the weather’s not for you, just drop me a text so I know not to wait for you. Otherwise – bring your your waterproofs and your adventurous spirit!
The only weather that can cancel the walk is if either the car park or the paths turn into icing rinks – in which case I may cancel in the interest of safety. That has happened once in 3 years. Soft snow is fine though.
What facilities are there at Newlands Corner?
There are loos and a little cafe at the car park so you can make yourself comfortable before and after the walk. The car park is huge, but can get busy on lovely summer Sundays.
How much?
Your first walk is FREE, come and try it out! Thereafter it’s £5 per person per walk, or £35 for the whole year (There’s one walk every month throughout the year). You can contribute by coming along and enjoying yourself, and passing the word around to others who might enjoy some time where they can focus just on themselves.
